So what kind of pedigreed dog is right for you? That depends on what kind of place you live in and your lifestyle. If you’re the active outdoor kind and you have a place in the country, you have the right to get the large breeds. 1. If you live in a small place and you love the outdoors… – Terriers are the best dogs for you. They require a small place to live, yet they love the outdoor exercise they get every morning. They also make great jogging or walking companions. Terriers come in small and medium sizes, they can be short or wire-haired (curly and coarse coated). There are many terrier breeds to choose from. Because they are frisky dogs, they don’t make ideal pets for very small children. Beagles and Basset Hounds are the kind to consider if you have kids.
2. If you live in a small place and are not particularly fond of outdoor activities… – A Chihuahua, Fox Terrier, Pug, or Pekingese is the kind to consider. They require little exercise; usually a regular short walk in the morning is fine for these home-loving dogs. They prefer to sit on your lap and watch TV or doze all day. However, if you have children, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the perfect family dog for you. Other spaniel breeds are also child-friendly and have a sweet, lovable nature.
3. If you have a spacious yard… – A Dalmatian is probably the ideal dog for you, this spotted dog brings cheer and prestige to a home with a garden. Spitzes, Retrievers and Labradors are also a good choice. They can play out in the yard with the kids even on days when you’re too busy to take them out for a walk around the neighborhood. Toy breeds such as Poodles and Pugs are also great; you can get two, even three or more of these small dogs.
4. If your home has large grounds as in a ranch… – German Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, Mastiffs, Retrievers, Labradors and Great Danes are ideal for people who own large properties. Herding dogs such as Collies and Sheepdogs are also great especially if you own livestock, they make perfect guards and shepherds. These big dogs need lots of space to run around. A pack of Beagles or Bloodhounds will also make good hunting companions for you.
5. If you live in a crowded city… – A place to walk your dog would be a big problem. Poodles and Chihuahuas are the kind of dogs that can be carried around bags or baskets. They will be quite content living indoors and they won’t take up too much space inside your house Poodles however should be groomed and clipped regularly since city climate can be rather hot and humid most of the year. Other small toy breeds with short hair are also advisable pets.
